Devon Prep captures state 3A boys title

Devon Prep hit more than half its shots and got at least 13 points from every starter Saturday on the way to a 76-58 victory over Aliquippa in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 3A boys championship game at the Giant Center in Hershey.

The Tide reached the final a week ago when it got past District 2 champion Holy Redeemer, 73-72, in an overtime semifinal in Bethlehem.

Lucas Orchard went 6-for-9 from the floor, including 3-for-4 on 3-pointers, while leading Devon Prep (25-4) with 17 points.

Jacen Holloway scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Argel Pettit IV scored 15 points while Ty Mischock and Allen Cieslak added 13 each. Mishock also had five assists and four steals.

Cameron Lindsey led Aliquippa with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Philadelphia Roman Catholic boys and the unbeaten Plymouth-Whitemarsh girls concluded the 3-day, 12-game championship series by winning the Class 6A titles.

Neumann-Goretti defeated Freedom Area, 55-49, in a Class 3A girls game to begin the day, giving the Philadelphia Catholic League school titles in both girls and boys. The school’s boys team won in Class 4A.

There were several outstanding individual performances.

Daniel Skillings and Xzayvier Brown each had double-doubles for Roman Catholic, which defeated Arcbishop Wood, 77-65.

Skillings was 14-for-26 from the floor with 31 points and 12 rebounds. Brown made all eight of his free throws while adding 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Justin Moore led Archbishop Wood with 21 points and 8 assists.

Abigail Sharpe made all 3 of her 3-point attempts and went 10-for-13 overall from the floor while scoring 26 points in Plymouth-Whitemarsh’s 60-40 romp over Mount Lebanon.

Plymouth-Whitemarsh built leads of 15-7 after one quarter, 25-11 at halftime and 41-17 after three quarters.

Mihjae Hayes scored 32 points and made 6 steals for Neumann-Goretti.

Hayes went 11-for-19 from the floor, 3-for-6 on 3-pointers and 7-for-11 from the line.
