Holy Redeemer shut out Executive Education for the final 7:38 Sunday while scoring the game’s final 19 points to advance to the state quarterfinals for just the second time in school history with a 66-49 victory in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association second-round game at Lehighton Elementary.
Justice Shoats, who scored a game-high 27 points, tied the game with 2:52 left in the fourth quarter, then neither team scored again in regulation.
The Royals had already scored the first six points of overtime and were headed to the line for the free throws that would increase the lead to eight with just under a minute remaining in overtime when the game got out of hand.
Executive Education’s Moustapha Sanoh was charged with a technical foul for arguing the call on his fifth foul. Coach Ray Barbosa picked up the argument and drew two more technical fouls and the automatic ejection that went with it.
Holy Redeemer hit 7 of the 8 free throws from the personal foul and 3 technicals, increasing the lead to 13 in what eventually became a 17-0 advantage in the overtime.
The wild finish completed the Royals rally from a seven-point deficit early in the second quarter.

The District 2 champion Royals (23-4) will play Philadelphia’s Math, Civics & Science (21-8) Friday night at 6 at Bethlehem Freedom to try to reach the state semifinals for the first time in school history.
