Nick Nocito, Jackson Wydra and Michael Bufalino led a three-way scoring punch that carried Dallas into the record books Saturday night.
Nocito scored 18 points as Dallas downed visiting Nanticoke, 77-53, in a District 2 Class 4A boys semifinal to extend its winning streak to 17 games and post its school-record 23rd win of the season.
Wydra and Bufalino added 16 points each in the win that sends Dallas into Friday night’s championship game against Mid Valley at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Michael Cumbo joined them in double figures with 11 points.
Jaidyn Johnson scored 18 points for Nanticoke, which still has a chance to qualify for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state tournament through the district’s third-place game Wednesday at Scranton Prep. Chris Johnson added 12 points and Payton Kepp had 10.
Dallas took control in the middle quarters, getting its offense moving while expanding a 13-7 lead to 60-33.
Wydra had 10 points during a 25-point second quarter for a 38-23 halftime lead.
Nocito had two of his three 3-pointers while scoring nine in the third quarter.
The Mountaineers finished an 11-0 February in which they averaged more than 74 points per game while beating opponents by an average of almost 26. That dominance included three playoff wins by a total of 69 points to claim the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 and tournament titles.
