Wyatt Peifer scored 10 points and the Wallenpaupack defense held Delaware Valley to three second-half field goals Wednesday night when the Buckhorns clinched the Lackawanna League Division 2 boys title with a 40-22, home-court victory.
Delaware Valley held Wallenpaupack without a basket in the first quarter and scored the first two points of the second for a 9-1 lead.
The Buckhorns outscored the Warriors, 39-13, in the rest of the way.
Ryan Doherty, who finished with a game-high 15 points, did all of the Delaware Valley first-quarter scoring for a 7-1 lead.
Peifer scored five points while Landon Calabrese and Erik Schreiber had four each as Wallenpaupack took a 14-11 halftime lead.
Peifer scored his other five points in the third quarter when his teammates went 5-for-6 from the line on the way to a 28-15 lead.
Calabrese finished with seven points. Jack Smith went 4-for-4 from the line in the second half when he scored all six of his points for the Buckhorns.
Wallenpaupack improved to 10-1 in the division with two games remaining and 16-4 overall.
The division’s other four teams all have at least four losses.
Delaware Valley is 5-6 and 7-11.
