Matt Prociak scored 28 points Saturday night as Holy Redeemer clinched no worse than a tie for first place in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 boys with a 77-55 victory over visiting Hanover Area.
Mike Merth scored 21 points and Elijah Noe added 19 for Hanover Area, but no other Hawkeye managed more than 4 points.
Merth and Noe helped the Hawkeyes take a halftime lead.
Justice Shoats and Zach Perta then led a third-quarter comeback before Prociak scored 11 fourth-quarter points to put the game away.
Shoats finished with 13 points and Perta had 12.
Prociak scored 13 in the first quarter to offset 8 by Merth and 7 by Noe and give the Royals a 20-18 lead after one quarter.
Noe and Merth each made it to halftime with 13 points to give the Hawkeyes a 33-31 lead.
Merth made five 3-pointers in the loss.
Holy Redeemer improved to 10-0 in the division with two games remaining. The Royals are 16-2 overall.
Second-place Nanticoke (7-2 and 9-9) is the only team with a mathematical chance of tying Holy Redeemer.
Third-place Hanover Area had a six-game winning streak broken. The Hawkeyes fell to 6-4 and 10-10.
The Royals will not take a break to celebrate their accomplishment.
Holy Redeemer heads for Parkland High School in the Lehigh Valley Sunday to play in the final game of the Lehigh Valley Hoop Group Showcase.
The event opens with Executive Education playing Archbishop Wood at noon, followed by Perkiomen vs. Mercersburg Academy at 1:30, Westtown vs. Blair Academy at 3, Parkland vs. Pocono Mountain West at 4:30 and Allentown Central Catholic vs. Holy Redeemer in the nightcap.
