Matt Prociak scored 32 points, including the 1,000th of his career, and fellow Holy Redeemer senior Justice Shoats also reached a milestone March 9 when the Royals opened the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 3A boys tournament with a 69-49, home-court romp over Southern Columbia.
Shoats added 17 points and moved past 1,500 for his career.
Prociak came into the game needing 30 points to get to 1,000 and got started on that total in a hurry.
The Royals dominated the first and third quarters.
Prociak scored 15 points and Shoats had 6 in the first quarter when the Royals took a 23-6 lead.
Although Prociak got to 22 points by halftime, the Tigers closed within 34-21.
Prociak scored his final 10 points, hitting two of his four 3-pointers in the third quarter. Shoats added eight points as the Royals scored 25 points to run their lead to 59-31.
Mike Szido led Southern Columbia with 10 points.
Loyalsock Township 87, Riverside 64
District 4 champion Loyalsock Township put on an offensive show to knock visiting Riverside out of the state tournament.
The Lancers finished with 13 made 3-pointers. They scored at least 20 points in each of the first three quarters while building a 70-47 lead.
Jaiden Ross made four of the 3-pointers while scoring 24 points to lead four scorers in double figures.
Riverside used its own 3-point success to keep the game close for most of the second quarter.
Anthony Karpinski made four 3-pointers while leading the Vikings with 18 points.
The Vikings made 11 shots from beyond the arc, including two each by Matt Godlewski, Gerry Rose and Michael Samsell.
Frankie Antoniacci scored 15 points in the loss while Godlewski and Rose added 10 each.
