Jason Shields needed just three quarters to set two school records and lead No. 1 seed Scranton back to the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza where it will attempt to defend its District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional boys title.

Shields drained 10 shots from 3-point range and scored 43 points, both records, Saturday night as Scranton pounded visiting Wilkes-Barre Area, 91-36, in a semifinal game.

The Knights advanced to play Williamsport, which defeated host Hazleton Area, 44-39, in the other semifinal.

Shields started fast. He had four 3-pointers and a dunk in Scranton’s 17-2 start.

The Knights went on to lead 31-6 after one quarter. Shields added a fifth 3-pointer and finished the quarter with 18 points.

The lead grew to 57-17 at halftime as Shields had 10 more points and Arvel Chandler had 7 to finish the half with all 13 of his points.

Shields was not done scoring. He made four more 3-pointers while scoring 15 of Scranton’s 17 third-quarter points and left the game with the Knights in front at that point, 74-23.

Sean Padden held the previous school scoring record of 41 points against Western Wayne in the 2013-14 season.

Shields broke the mark of eight 3-pointers reached previously by three players. Bob Crofton did it against Scranton Prep in the 2006-07 season; Bilal Field tied the record in 2008-09 against Honesdale; and Tim Fisch matched in a year later, also against Honesdale.

Nyquan Hollman-Santos led Wilkes-Barre Area with 11 points.

Scranton, which has already repeated as Lackawanna League Division 1 champion, improves to 20-2.

Wilkes-Barre Area ends its season 11-13.

Williamsport 44, Hazleton Area 39

Williamsport trailed by five on the road at halftime, tied the game at the end of the third quarter, then limited host Hazleton Area to one fourth-quarter field goal to pull out the win.

Kenon Brown led the Millionaires (18-5) into the Subregional final rematch with Scranton by scoring 17 points. Elijah Frierson added 15.

Josian Guerra scored 23 points, 17 in the first half, to lead Hazleton Area (19-7).
