Lamar Glover scored 15 points while Jamar Carr and Jacob Beccles joined him in double figures with big fourth quarters Wednesday night when Constitution survived a challenge from District 2 champion Holy Cross to advance to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 2A boys state semifinals with a 52-50 victory at Bethlehem Liberty High School.

The Philadelphia school, a state runner-up in 2021, advanced into its second straight state semifinal matchup with Old Forge back at Liberty where they won again Saturday.

Carr scored 8 of his 14 points and Beccles had 6 of his 13 in the fourth quarter when Constitution again overcame a small late deficit.

Holy Cross led after one quarter, then battled back to score the last 12 points of the third quarter to take a 34-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

Constitution carried a four-point lead into the closing seconds. Holy Cross missed a late 3-pointer and only had time for Logan Tierney’s putback at the buzzer.

Hayden Hosie led Holy Cross with 14 points while Gabe Gonzales had 13 and Tierney finished with 10.

Hosie hit two 3-pointers and Gonzales also had six points in the first quarter to get the Crusaders out to a 14-11 start.

Constitution gradually worked ahead, 32-22, with 3:18 left in the third quarter before Holy Cross surged back into the lead.

Gonzales had seven points and Kaeden Carr had five in the third quarter when each hit a 3-pointer. Carr hit another 3-pointer in the fourth quarter and finished with nine points, all in the second half.

Holy Cross finished the season with a 21-7 record. The Crusaders lost their first two games of January to slip to 0-2 in Lackawanna League Division 3 and 4-5 overall, then their only losses in the remaining 19 games came in a playoff with Mid Valley for the Division 3 title and in the state quarterfinal to a team that was on its way back to the championship game.
