BOYS ROUNDUP: Cavaliers keep rolling

Andrew Ferguson scored 9 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter Saturday when Scranton Prep ran its winning streak to four games by pulling out a 53-51 victory over visiting North Pocono in a Lackawanna League Division 1-2 boys crossover game between second-place teams.

The Cavaliers trailed by one point at halftime and going into the fourth quarter, but opened a 52-46 lead on two Noah Sorenson free throws with a minute left.

Robert Rossi added 15 points for Scranton Prep.

Kyle McCullough made six 3-pointers while leading North Pocono with 22 points. Billy Pabst added 11.

Scranton Prep is 4-1 in the league and 8-5 overall. It moved to within one game of first-place Scranton in Division 1.

North Pocono (5-3, 11-4) fell to 1½ games behind Wallenpaupack in Division 2.

In other Saturday boys games:

Pittston Area 50, Wilkes-Barre 40

J.J. Walsh went 10-for-12 from the line while scoring 22 points as Pittston Area turned back visiting Wilkes-Barre Area in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 game.

Dominic Jannuzzi added 10 points in the win.

Brandon Benjamin led Wilkes-Barre Area with 12 points.

Hazleton Area 57, Wyoming Valley West 36

Hazleton Area ran out to leads of 25-5 after one quarter and 41-12 at halftime while remaining unbeaten in WVC Division 1.

Luke Gennaro and Josian Guerra each went 5-for-7 from the floor to lead the team to a 54.8 percent shooting effort (23-for-42).

Gennaro led the way with 15 points. Guerra had 11 points and 5 assists while Khalid Morrison had 13 points.

Tunkhannock 60, Crestwood 46

Ben Chilson scored 24 points to lead Tunkhannock to the WVC Division 1, home-court win.

Dylan Mateus, who hit two 3-pointers, and Josh Brown each scored six points when the Tigers took a 19-9 lead after one quarter.

Brown and Garret Yuhas finished with 13 points each. Mateus added nine.

Drew Sechleer led Crestwood with 13 points.

Holy Redeemer 55, Nanticoke 44

Darryl Wright and Justice Shoats scored 15 points each and led the surge that allowed Holy Redeemer to overcome a seven-point halftime deficit to remain undefeated in WVC Division 2.

Wright had eight points and Shoats seven when Holy Redeemer outscored Nanticoke, 17-7, until the last minute of the third quarter to turn a 23-16 deficit into a 33-30 lead.

Matt Prociak added 10 points in the win.

Jacob Hunter scored all seven of his points in the fourth quarter, including going 4-for-4 from the line when his teammates were combining to go 4-for-10.

Chris Johnson (13), Payton Kepp (11) and Jaidyn Johnson (10) scored in double figures for Holy Redeemer.

Hanover Area 70, Wyoming Area 55

Mike Merth had 19 points, 13 rebounds and 7 steals to lead Hanover Area to the WVC Division 2 home victory.

Elijah Noe made four 3-pointers while also scoring 19 points.

Melikah Gonzales added 15 and Andrew Fleming had 12.

Matt Little hit five 3-pointers while scoring a game-high 21 points for Wyoming Area.

Evan Melberger and Dane Schutter had 12 points apiece in the loss.

Wyoming Seminary 48, MMI Prep 36

Isaiah Stull scored 18 points to lead Wyoming Seminary past visiting MMI Prep in the WVC Division 2 game.

Brendon Brobst led MMI Prep with 18 points.

Abington Heights 64, West Scranton 39

Abington Heights made nine 3-pointers, including four by Matt Show and three by Ryan Nealon in the Lackawanna Division 1 rout of visiting West Scranton.

Lakeland 50, Carbondale 40

Lakeland defeated visiting Carbondale in a game between teams that entered the day in the bottom two spots in the Lackawanna Division 3 standings.

Dallas 69, Athens 38

Nick Nocito scored 12 points and Austin Finarelli had 10 during a 33-6 second quarter that allowed Dallas to overcome a five-point deficit on the way to the non-league rout at Athens.

The Mountaineers went from trailing 17-12 after one quarter to leading 63-30 after three.

Nocito hit four 3-pointers in the second quarter and scored seven more points in the fourth. He finished with a game-high 21 points.

Finarelli added 17 points while Michael Cumbo had 11.
