BOYS ROUNDUP: Crusaders take division lead

Hayden Hosie made three 3-pointers, scored 13 points and led a balanced Holy Cross attack as the host Crusaders handled crosstown rival Dunmore to assume sole possession of the Lackawanna League Division 3 boys lead with a 55-38 victory Thursday night.

Holy Cross won its eighth straight to match Dallas for the longest boys winning streak in District 2.

The Crusaders improved to 7-2 in the division, a half-game in front of idle Mid Valley, and 12-5 overall.

Holy Cross ran out to a 7-0 lead in the first 1:40 and built the lead to 21-6 with 40 seconds left in the first quarter with the help of 8 of Logan Tierney’s 11 points.

Hosie hit a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter to help the Crusaders outscore Dunmore, 10-6, for a 31-14 halftime lead.

Gabe Gonzales made two 3-pointers in the third quarter and had 10 of his 12 points in the second half.

Kaeden Carr also scored six points in the third quarter. He finished with 10 points.

Adriel DeNaples led Dunmore, which began the night as one of four teams within a game of the division lead, with 14 points.

In other Thursday boys games:

Riverside 77, Carbondale 52

Matthew Godlewski scored 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help host Riverside remain within a game of the Lackawanna Division 3 lead.

Frankie Antoniacci added 16 points.

The Vikings won their fifth straight to improve to 6-3 and 13-4.

Old Forge 65, Lakeland 32

Ayden Davitt scored 17 points to lead Old Forge past Lakeland in a Lackawanna Division 3 game.

Joe Macciocco added 12 points. Three teammates chipped in with 7 and a total of 11 Blue Devils scored.

Old Forge moved above .500 overall by winning their third straight. The Blue Devils are 3-4 and 8-7.

Scranton 67, West Scranton 39

Jason Shields scored 16 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead first-place Scranton past West Scranton in a Lackawanna Division 1 game.

Dillon Lazdowsky had 12 of his 15 points in the first half to help the Knights to a 37-23 lead.

Scranton opened the second half with a 10-2 run. When the Knights scored the first four points of the fourth quarter, they moved the game into the Mercy Rule with a 60-29 lead.

Arvel Chandler added 14 points in the win.

Scranton is 6-1 in the league and has District 2’s best overall record at 13-1.

West Scranton was led by Tristan Lee with 13 points.

Scranton Prep 54, Valley View 48

Andrew Ferguson scored 16 points and Robert Rossi had all 13 of his points in the second half to lead Scranton Prep to the Lackawanna Division 1 road win.

Taheed Jewell led Valley View with 15 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists.

Scranton Prep won for the fifth time in six games to improve to 5-2 and 9-6. The Cavaliers moved to within a game of first-place Scranton and a half-game of second-place Scranton Prep.

Rossi scored seven points and Ferguson hit two 3-pointers in the third quarter when Scranton Prep expanded its 18-11 halftime lead to 38-26.

A.J. Kucharski had six of his nine points for Valley View during the quarter.

While his teammates were struggling, going 5-for-12 at the foul line during the fourth quarter, Rossi was going 6-for-6 to help secure the victory.

Jewell had eight points in the fourth to help the Cougars cut into the lead.

Nanticoke 58, Wyoming Seminary 53

Payton Kepp scored 24 points to lead Nanticoke to the WVC Division 2 victory.

Owen Brown added 13 points while Chris Johnson had 11.

The Trojans trailed most of the game, including by seven points at haltime.

Nanticoke has won 8 of its last 10 games to improve to 7-2 in the division and 9-9 overall.

Isaiah Stull made five 3-pointers while leading Wyoming Seminary with 19 points.

Elijah Hartley added 15 points and Chief Montalvo had 10.
