Hayden Hosie’s putback beat the final buzzer and lifted Holy Cross to a 49-47 victory at Riverside Tuesday night in a Lackawanna League Division 3 boys game.
Logan Tierney scored 16 points to lead the Crusaders, who ran their winning streak to three games and improved to 2-2 in the division and 7-5 overall by winning the meeting of ranked teams.
Holy Cross came into the game with the defending champions ranked fourth among Small Schools in the My City Mortgage Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
Riverside led 24-14 late in the first half before Logan Aldrich came off the Holy Cross bench to hit two 3-pointers and close the gap to four at halftime.
No. 3 Riverside lost its second straight to drop to 2-3 and 8-4. The previous loss came in overtime against division leader Mid Valley.

Pittston Area 42, Wyoming Valley West 40
Pittston Area avoided the upset by outscoring visiting Wyoming Valley West, 12-4, in the fourth quarter after trailing throughout.
J.J. Walsh scored 18 points, Dominic Jannuzzi added 15 and they combined to lead the Patriots down the stretch.
The Spartans led 13-8 after one quarter, 21-13 at the half and 36-30 going into the fourth quarter. They never trailed until the final minute.
Walsh’s floater with 56 seconds left gave Pittston Area (3-2, 8-3) a 40-38 lead.
Jannuzzi missed the front end of a one-and-one, but got his own rebound, got fouled again and hit both ends of a one-and-one with 10 seconds left for a four-point lead.
Wyoming Valley West hit just its second basket of the fourth quarter as time expired.
Jonathan Mann led the Spartans (1-5, 3-10) with 17 points and Brian Gill added 10.
Nanticoke 47, Lake-Lehman 25
Nanticoke moved into a share of the WVC Division 2 lead with Holy Redeemer at 2-0 by posting the win on the road.
Jaidyn Johnson finished with 14 points to lead Nanticoke, which rolled to a 41-13 halftime lead.
The Trojans are just 3-7 overall, playing a schedule in which every opponent has a winning record, but they have won two straight since their delayed entry into conference play.
West Scranton 67, Valley View 56
West Scranton placed its entire starting five in double figures in scoring while beating Valley View in the Lackawanna Division 1 game at Scranton High School.
Tristan Lee scored half of his 16 points in the third quarter when West Scranton stretched a 28-23 lead to 51-36.
Evan Laybourn Boddie and Antonio Torres scored 12 points each while Chris Ogden and Brett Miller had 11.
The Invaders are 2-1 and 8-3, but fourth in the five-team division because Scranton and Abington Heights are 2-0 and Scranton Prep has won its only league game.
Taheed Jewell and A.J. Kucharski scored 12 points each for Valley View, which also got 11 points from L.V. Pegula and 10 from Dominic Memo.
Hazleton Area 61, Berwick 44
Josian Guerra scored 21 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and made 3 steals as Hazleton Area won on the road to remain unbeaten in WVC Division 1.
Joe Marshall added 16 points and 8 rebounds for the Cougars, who outscored the Bulldogs in every quarter.
Sean Murphy scored 17 points and Miles Doll added 10 for Berwick.
Wilkes-Barre Area 48, Crestwood 33
Crestwood hit three 3-pointers to end the first quarter in an 11-11 tie, but Wilkes-Barre Area held the host Comets to single digits in scoring in each of the remaining three quarters while gradually pulling away.
Samir Hill led the Wolfpack with 15 points and Bryan Clarke added 10.
Crestwood was led by Zayne Dunsmuir with 14 points.
Hanover Area 62, MMI Prep 48
Jake Zola scored 10 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter when visiting Hanover Area outscored MMI Prep, 18-7, to break open the WVC Division 2 game.
Melikah Gonzalez added 14 points.
Ryan Clymer-Sones (17), Thomas Mayernik (11) and Brendon Brobst (10) scored in double figures for MMI Prep.
Blue Ridge 67, Susquehanna 29
First-place Blue Ridge ran away on its home court in the Lackawanna Division 4 rematch of a non-league game in Susquehanna 10 days earlier that the Raiders won just 57-53.
Connor Cranage led the way for the Raiders with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
J.J. Rosa had 10 points and 7 assists while Dylan Bradley had 8 points and 15 rebounds.
Mountain View 63, Montrose 51
Mountain View went to Montrose and posted its second straight Lackawanna Division 4 victory.
The Eagles have won three out of four, with the only loss coming to first-place Blue Ridge, since starting 0-3.
