BOYS ROUNDUP: Mateus leads Tigers
Tunkhannock uses 3-point shooting to overwhelm Elk Lake.
Tunkhannock hit a nine 3-pointers over the final three quarters to overcome a slow start offensively and finish with 11 total during a 69-39 blowout of host Elk Lake Thursday night.
The Tigers trailed, 13-12, after one quarter despite 3-pointers by Dylan Mateus and Ben Chilson.
Mateus heated up from there, finishing the game with nine 3-pointers and 35 points. He hit three shots from long range in the second quarter, four in the third and one more in the fourth.
With Mateus outscoring the Warriors by himself, Tunkhannock took a 31-20 lead at halftime.
Mateus then scored 15 points in the third quarter as the lead grew to 52-30.
Chilson went 7-for-8 from the line while adding 16 points.
Shane Macko had the other 3-pointer and scored 11 points.
Wyatt Casselbury led Elk Lake with 12 points.
The high-scoring Tigers used the win to improve to 3-0 with the wins coming by an average margin of 34 points.

Old Forge 63, Montrose 23
Old Forge was already well in command when it shut out host Montrose in the third quarter to add 16 points to its lead, making it 52-14.
Ayden Davitt had half of the Old Forge points in the third quarter and finished with 19 to lead the Blue Devils.
Joe Macciocco added 14 points.
Sam Stashko was Montrose’s leading scorer with 10 points.
Holy Redeemer 59, St. John Neumann 39
Matt Prociak and Justice Shoats rallied Holy Redeemer on the road after St. John Neumann took a 28-23 halftime lead.
Prociak scored 12 points in the third quarter, 16 in the second half and 22 for the game. He helped the Royals outscore St. John Neumann, 15-6, in the third.
Shoats, who had 11 points in the first half, scored 6 in the fourth quarter to help put the game away. He finished with 18 points.
The Royals allowed just 11 second-half points.
Scranton Prep 52, Wyoming Valley West 42
Scranton Prep dug out of an early hole to win on the road.
Matt Cobb had seven points and Andrew Ferguson six in the second quarter when the Cavaliers outscored the Spartans, 17-6, to turn an eight-point deficit into a 24-21 halftime lead.
Ferguson and Robert Rossi shared the team scoring lead with 14 points apiece.
Jon Mann scored 16 points and Tyreese Harris added 10 for Wyoming Valley West.
Wallenpaupack 42, Wilkes-Barre Area 37
Jack Smith scored 13 points, including 6 in the fourth quarter when he went 4-for-4 from the foul line while Wallenpaupack was holding off a Wilkes-Barre Area comeback.
Wyatt Piefer hit two 3-pointers in a 12-8 first quarter for Wallenpaupack and finished with nine points.
The Buckhorns built the lead to 20-12 at halftime and led 28-21 going into the fourth.
Bryan Clarke and Naquan Santos-Hollman had eight points each for the Wolfpack.
Shamokin Lourdes 64, MMI Prep 28
Thomas Mayernik scored 12 points for MMI Prep in the loss.
