Jake Brower and Ryan Doherty combined for 42 points and led Delaware Valley down the stretch Friday night when the Warriors escaped with a 65-60, overtime victory on their home court in a Lackawanna League Division 2 game against Western Wayne.
The game included a coaching matchup between the Holtzer brothers, Kris at Delaware Valley and Adam at Western Wayne, whose team nearly pulled off the upset in pursuit of its first victory of the season.
Brower led the way with 22 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter and 2 more in overtime.
Doherty finished with 20 points. He had two of his four 3-pointers in the first quarter, then did the rest of his scoring after halftime. That included 6 of Delaware Valley’s 10 overtime points.
Noah Newton added 13 points.
Ryan Vinton scored 17 points to lead the Wildcats, who ran out to a 19-10 lead after one quarter.
Frankie Leyshon scored 7 of his 16 points in the first quarter. Owen Warren added 12 points.
With its second straight win, Delaware Valley improved to 3-4 in the league and 5-9 overall.
Western Wayne is 0-7 and 0-14.
Hanover Area 51, Berwick 45
Melikah Gonzalez scored 19 points to lead Hanover Area to the non-league, home win in Friday’s only other game.
Mike Merth added 10 points.
Riley Hanson scored 11 points and Sean Murphy 10 for Berwick.
