Imhotep boys, Cardinal O’Hara girls win

Imhotep Charter and Cardinal O’Hara won Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association titles Friday, giving District 12 half of the first eight titles decided at the Giant Center in Hershey.

The Neumann-Goretti boys and Archbishop Wood girls won championships Thursday. District 12 consists of Philadelphia Public League city schools and the Philadelphia Catholic League, which extends to the suburbs.

Constitution from Philadelphia and Southern Columbia from District 4, the boys and girls teams that knocked out District 2 schools on their way to the state finals, each lost in Class 2A finals earlier in the day.

Justin Edwards scored 20 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and made 4 steals as Imhotep Charter defeated New Castle, 54-39, before a crowd of 1,452, the largest of the day, in the nightcap.

Edwards was 7-for-11 from the floor, 2-for-4 on 3-pointers and 4-for-4 from the line for Imhotep Charter (28-4).

Cardinal O’Hara held Chartiers Valley to the lowest point total in the 49-year history of girls finals with a 42-19 victory.

Maggie Doogan had 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals for Cardinal O’Hara.

Cardinal O’Hara took an 8-2 lead after one quarter and held Chartiers Valley without a third-quarter field goal as part of an eight-point second half.

Unbeaten Our Lady of Sacred Heart from District 7, suburban Pittsburgh, used an outstanding shooting game to outscore Constitution, 92-71, in Class 2A boys.

OLSH placed six of its seven players in double figures in scoring while shooting 56.9 percent (33-for-58) from the floor, 42.1 percent (8-for-19) on 3-pointers and 85.7 percent (18-for-21) from the foul line.

Jake DeMichele led the way with 25 points and 11 rebounds.

Constitution, which posted wins of 50-48 over Holy Cross in the quarterfinals and 67-40 over Old Forge in the semifinals, got 29 points by Jacob Beccles and 20 from Lamar Glover.

Southern Columbia began its state tournament road with a 67-35 rout of Elk Lake.

Neshannock stopped the Lady Tigers, 62-56, in the first game of the day.

Mairan Haggerty scored 23 points and blocked 6 shots.

Summer Tillett scored 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Southern Columbia.
