Mountain View finished precisely in the middle of the pack in Lackawanna League Division 4 girls basketball last season.
The Lady Eagles are aiming much higher this season.
Mountain View, which went 6-6 while finishing fourth in the seven-team division, returns five players who started more than half of last season’s games and three of them trace their time as a starter back to at least part of the season two years ago.
“Our season goal is to compete in each game and challenge for the division title,” Lady Eagles coach Bill Simons said. “We return a lot of experience, but will look to some newcomers and a couple returning players to help us be successful.”
The Lady Eagles went right into league play in their January 22 season opener. Despite that loss to Lackawanna Trail, there is hope for improvement from a 9-14 overall record a year ago.
Senior guard Regan Cameron, a three-year starter, was a second-team, all-star choice last season by NEPABasketball.com. She was the team’s top scoring threat last season.
Senior forward Morgan Hammond, senior guards Emory Bewley and Jade Travis and sophomore guard Taylor Neri are also back.
Bewley, who missed the second half of last season with an injury, and Hammond also made some starts as sophomores.
Simons said senior Katie Glover, junior Rachel Gerfin and sophomore Adia Tompkins could also compete for starting forward spots.
Sophomores Leah Evans, a guard, and Michaela Hammond, a forward, also have some limited varsity experience.
