A highly anticipated girls basketball season at Montrose finally got underway Saturday afternoon.
Hayley Pompey scored 15 points and the Montrose defense did the rest in a 60-19 victory over visiting Blue Ridge in a Lackawanna League Division 4 game.
Montrose is the last of the 39 active District 2 teams to start its season because of COVID-19 issues within the program.
The Lady Meteors are ranked fifth among Small Schools in the My City Mortgage Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams and are favored to win the Division 4 title.
Montrose opened a 31-10 halftime lead and barely slowed down from there.

Western Wayne 40, Delaware Valley 34
The Romanowski sisters led the way as Western Wayne claimed sole possession of first place in Lackawanna League Division 2 with the win at Delaware Valley.
The Lady Wildcats, ranked fourth among Small Schools in the Super Six, won for the second straight night, but it was not easy. They trailed after one quarter and led by just one at halftime and going into the fourth quarter.
Kaeli Romanowski, a junior who is the reigning NEPABasketball.com Division 2 Player of the Year, led the way with 13 points. Emily Romanowski, her freshman sister, added 12.
Western Wayne is 3-1 in the Lackawanna League, losing only to Division 1 leader Scranton Prep, and is 3-3 overall.
Defending champion North Pocono, the team Western Wayne beat Friday night, is a half-game behind the Lady Wildcats.
Northwest 46, Sullivan County 32
Charleigh Miner scored 20 points as Northwest posted its fifth straight victory, all by double figures margins, in the Mid-Penn League game against visiting Sullivan County.
The Lady Rangers are 6-2 and ranked sixth among Small Schools in the Super Six.
Miner hit two 3-pointers while scoring eight points in the first half, which ended with Northwest ahead 16-14.
The Lady Rangers added to their 24-20 halftime lead when Miner hit two more 3-pointers and scored seven points in the third quarter.
Charleigh Miner was 5-for-6 from the line and Karsyn Miner, who finished with 10 points, was 4-for-8 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Scranton 52, Wallenpaupack 37
Lanee Olson scored 16 points as Scranton picked up its first win of the season in a Lackawanna Division 1-2 game at Wallenpaupack.
Nanticoke 50, Crestwood 43
Riley Baird scored 20 points to lead Nanticoke to the non-league win over visiting Crestwood.
The Trojanettes took a 41-29 lead into the fourth quarter.
They did not have a field goal in the last eight minutes, but Baird was 7-for-8 from the line to finish a 9-for-10 effort in the game.
Brooklyn Biehl added 10 points. Biehl and Baird each had five points in the 15-7 third quarter to expand the lead from four to a dozen.
Helena Jardine had six points and Jaden Weiss five for Crestwood in the fourth quarter. Each finished with 12 points.
Wilkes-Barre Area 40, Williamsport 26
Wilkes-Barre Area fell into a six-point deficit at halftime when it failed to produce a field goal in the second quarter, but responded by shutting out visiting Williamsport in the third quarter of the non-league game.
The 15-0 quarter gave the Wolfpack a 28-19 lead and sent it on the way to a fourth straight victory, all of which have come by at least a dozen points, to improve its record to 6-1.
Gloria Adjayi scored 9 of her 13 points in the third quarter.
Shelby Ardo Boyko added 12 points.
Vanessa Luna scored 5 of her 10 points and Ardo Boyko had 4 in the fourth quarter to close out the win.
Valley View 63, Carbondale 32
Skylar Bianchi scored 15 points and Alexa Evangelista added 14 in the non-league road win for Valley View.
Maura Barrett, Molly Murphy and Alivia Romano chipped in with nine, eight and seven points respectively.
Cumberland Valley 54, Hazleton Area 21
Cumberland Valley matched its season average margin of victory while remaining unbeaten through seven games with the non-league win over visiting Hazleton Area.
Reagan Beashore had 8 points and 10 assists for Cumberland Valley, which built a 51-15 lead through three quarters.
Julia Mrochko led Hazleton Area with 10 points.
