Riverside used a steady approach to joining Wilkes-Barre Area as the only 2-0 boys basketball teams in District 2.
Brandon Reed scored at least two baskets in each quarter while Michael Rickert and Frankie Antoniacci each hit 3-pointers in every quarter Monday night on a way to a 64-47, non-league victory at Delaware Valley.
The game was the season opener for Delaware Valley, which joined Riverside as the only Lackawanna League teams to play so far this season. The Lackawanna is not scheduled to begin league play until Jan. 22.
Reed finished with 21 points while Rickert had 18 and Antoniacci 14.
The Warriors took a 6-2 lead before Reed scored four points and Rickert, Antoniacci and Josh Godlewski hit 3-pointers in a 13-3 run to a 15-9 lead after one quarter.
The Vikings gradually stretched their lead out from there.
Delaware Valley’s Aiden Oliver made two 3-pointers in the second quarter and had eight of his team-high 10 points in the first half, but Reed and Godlewski joined Rickert and Antoniacci in hitting second-quarter, 3-pointers for a 31-22 halftime lead.
Riverside, ranked second among Small School boys in the My City Mortgage Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams, finished with 11 made 3-pointers in the game.
Rickert scored seven points in the third quarter to build the lead to 50-37 going into the fourth quarter.
