Lake-Lehman boys down Berwick

Max Paczewski scored 10 of his game-high 14 points during the third quarter while helping Lake-Lehman take control of the game on the way to its first victory of the season, 51-34, over visiting Berwick.

Lake-Lehman is 1-1 in boys non-league play while Berwick is 0-2.

The Black Knights held the Bulldogs without a field goal until the final two seconds of the first quarter while running out to a 12-2 lead.

Berwick got as close as five points three times in the second quarter and made it to halftime within 21-15.

Paczewski worked his way inside to open the second-half scoring and start a seven-point streak. He added a 3-pointer midway through the quarter, then scored the last five points of the third to complete a 17-5 advantage that produced a comfortable, 38-20 lead.

Berwick worked its way back within 12 twice in the fourth quarter, but could not get any closer.

Paczewski also had four assists and was part of the ball-handling combination that allowed Lake-Lehman to make it through the game with just six turnovers.

Six Black Knights scored at least five points and forward Neil Dougherty had four points and five rebounds before leaving the game in the first half with an apparent ankle injury.

Hayden Klopp had eight rebounds and three blocked shots for Lake-Lehman.

Both teams got strong games from their top subs.

Cole Morio had eight points and three offensive rebounds while Matt Whitesell had six points and three rebounds for Lake-Lehman.

Isaac Tripp came off the bench to produce a double-double for Berwick, leading the team in both points and rebounds. He was the top scorer for the second straight game with 11 points and had 10 rebounds.

Freshman Jordan Montes had four offensive and five total rebounds, contributing to Berwick’s strong suit in the game.

The Bulldogs had a 49-34 rebounding advantage, including 17 offensive boards – five by Tahsjee Taylor and four each by Tripp and Montes. Taylor had eight total rebounds.

Sean Murphy chipped in with eight points and Miles Doll seven rebounds in the loss.
