Lakeland’s returning seniors and juniors collectively bring years of experience into the season as the Lady Chiefs look to improve on a 4-8 Lackawanna League Division 3 record to give the team a shot at better District 2 Class 3A seeding position.
Senior shooting guard Colby White is in her fourth season as a starter.
Senior Addie Piraino and junior Skylar Arendt are starting for a third season.
Junior Angelica Nowak is another returning starter while senior Kaylee Lorenzetti and junior Katie Zabrowski have also made some appearances in the starting lineup.
Point guard Jillian Contorno saw some action as a freshman and is also competing for a spot in the lineup.
White averaged 13 points and 5.7 rebounds last season.
Piraino, who splits time between shooting guard and playing in the post at 5-foot-7, was the team’s most accurate shooter last season. She hit 45 percent while averaging 11.8 points and 7.3 rebounds.
Arendt contributed 8.7 points and 4.1 rebounds.
Nowak shot 30 percent from 3-point range while contributing 5.8 points per game.
The Lady Chiefs need all those players and more on the boards. Arendt, a combo guard, is the team’s tallest player at 5-8. White and Piraino are 5-7 while everyone else on the roster at 5-6 or shorter.
Liberty Stefalo, a senior guard with limited varsity experience, and Alexia Bauer, a 5-6 freshman post player, could also find their way into the rotation.
The Lady Chiefs managed a .500 season overall and, after a first-round district playoff loss, finished 11-12.
