Cumberland Valley rips Wilkes-Barre Area

The Jekot sisters and Cumberland Valley made sure the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state tournament debut was difficult for Wilkes-Barre Area.

Julie Jekot scored 17 points and Jill Jekot added 15 as Cumberland Valley defeated visiting Wilkes-Barre Area, 67-23, Friday night in a Class 6A quarterfinal game.

Wilkes-Barre Area was within 12-6 after one quarter.

The District 3 champions broke the game open when Julie Jekot scored 10 points and Jill Jekot had 7 during a 24-4 second quarter to open a 36-10 halftime lead.

Reagan Basehore added 13 points and Abbie Miller added 10 for Cumberland Valley.

Shelby Ardo Boyko led District 2-4 Class 6A Subregional champion Wilkes-Barre Area with eight points. Gloria Adjayi added six.
