Freshmen Kylie Mastillo and Makenzie Perluke finished strong Thursday night to lead their teams to victories in the only girls basketball league games played in District 2.
North Pocono 61, Honesdale 39
Mastillo scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half when North Pocono broke away from a tie game to win at home in Lackawanna League Division 2.
The defending champion Lady Trojans improved to 2-0 in the division and 2-1 overall by turning back Honesdale, which was playing for the first time after delays related to coronavirus precautions at the school.
Honesdale outscored North Pocono in the second quarter to make it to halftime in the 23-23 tie.
Alicia Goldenzeil had 10 of her 14 points in the second half.
Carena Colo added 13 for the Lady Trojans.
Jenna Beach had 5 of her 10 points in the third quarter when North Pocono assumed a 38-33 lead.
Mastillo then scored 11 points while North Pocono was breaking the game open in the fourth quarter.
Chloe Lyle scored 17 points, including 13 in the first half for Honesdale.
Rowan Murphy added 14.
Wyoming Valley West 41, Crestwood 31
Perluke scored 7 of her game-high 12 points during a fourth-quarter rally that carried Wyoming Valley West to the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 victory over visiting Crestwood.
Trinity Johnson, who grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, had 5 of her 8 points in the fourth quarter.
Claudia Siegfried also scored eight points while Kalia Saunders grabbed nine rebounds.
Crestwood limited Wyoming Valley West to one field goal in each of the first two quarters.
The Lady Spartans kept themselves in the low-scoring game at the foul line.
Perluke went 5-for-6 from the line and Johnson went 4-for-6 from the line.
Crestwood only managed one field goal in the first and third quarters. It still managed to lead 7-4 after one quarter, 17-13 at halftime and 23-21 going into the fourth.
Brianna Wickiser scored nine points and Helena Jardine had eight for the Lady Comets. Each went 5-for-8 from the foul line.
Wickiser grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
Wilkes-Barre Area 50, Tunkhannock 35
Gloria Adjayi scored 19 points to lead host Wilkes-Barre Area in the non-league game.
The Wolfpack have posted three straight double-figures victories to improve to 5-1 overall.
Adjayi scored nine of her points in the third quarter when the Wolfpack held the Lady Tigers without a field goal and outscored them, 20-4, to take a 43-23 lead.
Vanessa Luna added 11 points in the win.
Sable Stephens scored 10 points to lead Tunkhannock, including nine in the second quarter to keep the Lady Tigers close.
