Montrose won a battle of divisional unbeatens and the other three games that were contested Friday impacted leadership of their divisions.
Montrose 56, Lackawanna Trail 33
Hayley Pompey scored 25 points as Montrose remained unbeaten through three games while handing Lackawanna Trail its first loss in Lackawanna League Division 4 play.
Lackawanna Trail had a chance to tie Elk Lake for the division lead with a win.
Instead, the Lady Meteors, who got a late start to their season because of COVID-19, moved within a half-game of the Lady Warriors.
Tangi Smith dished out 11 assists and Ciara Hundley grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lady Meteors.
Mia Snyder hit three 3-pointers while scoring 10 points.
Pompey had 11 of Montrose’s 13 second-quarter points to finish the half with 19 and help the Lady Meteors to a 29-16 lead.
Montrose broke the game open with a 24-9 third quarter. Pompey had her last six points during the quarter.
Amaralis Thiel had all eight of her points in the first half for the Lady Lions, who dropped to 3-1 in the division and 3-2 overall.
Mackenzie Schirg finished as the team’s leading scorer with nine.
Dallas 51, Pittston Area 33
Bella Hill and Julia Kocher led a balanced attack with 11 points each as Dallas moved into a tie for the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 lead with the home-court win.
The Mountaineers pounded the boards, getting 18 on the offensive end.
Defending champion Dallas and Hazleton Area moved into a tie for the division lead with Wilkes-Barre Area. All are 3-1 in the division.
Kallie Booth had 21 points to lead Pittston Area, which was returning from an 11-day layoff because of COVID-19 protocols.
Hazleton Area 62, Crestwood 56
Olivia Wolk scored 19 points to lead three players in double figures while helping Hazleton Area claim its share of the division lead.
Wolk and Lacie Kringe each scored six points in the fourth quarter when Crestwood scored 23, but Hazleton Area fought off the Lady Comets by scoring 20.
Kringe and Julia Mrochko scored 13 points each. Brooke Boretski added 11.
Helena Jardine (16), Julia Glowacki (12) and Brianna Wickiser (10) scored in double figures for Crestwood.
