GIRLS ROUNDUP: Wyoming Area, WVW win

Morgan Janeski scored 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds Monday night when Wyoming Area handled host Wyoming Seminary, 53-21, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 game.

The meeting of teams that tied for third place in the division last season left Wyoming Area at 2-0 and tied for the early division lead with Lake-Lehman.

Janeski went 9-for-11 from the line.

Halle Kranson scored 8 of her 11 points in the first quarter for the Lady Warriors.

Janeski scored 15 and Maria Amato added 8 over the next two quarters when Wyoming Area went from a 14-8 lead to a 43-14 blowout.

Amato finished with 10 points and 5 assists.

Margaret Mihalick led Wyoming Seminary with seven points.

In other Monday action:

Wyoming Valley West 47, Dallas 28

Wyoming Valley West ran away from defending champion Dallas early while becoming the first team to reach 2-0 in WVC Division 1.

The Lady Spartans led 21-5 after one quarter.

Trinity Johnson led the way with 15 points. Kalia Saunders added 11 and Claudia Siegfried had 10.

Dallas was led by Bella Hill with nine points.

Berwick 46, Wilkes-Barre Area 39

Katie Starr and Renny Murphy led Berwick to a win at home in WVC Division 1.

Starr had 18 points and 14 rebounds. Murphy had 13 points and 9 steals.

Murphy had six points and Starr five when Berwick outscored Wilkes-Barre Area 16-9 in the second quarter to take a 25-20 halftime lead.

Glorida Adjayi led the Wolfpack with 18 points.

Crestwood 50, Pittston Area 30

Crestwood outscored visiting Pittston Area 23-2 from late in the first quarter until early in the third quarter to win the WVC Division 1 game.

Julia Glowacki hit three 3-pointers and scored all 12 of her points while sparking Crestwood to a 26-8 halftime lead.

Helena Jardine also scored 12 points and Brianna Wickiser had 11.

Kallie Booth had 11 of her game-high 13 points during the second half for Pittston Area.

Nanticoke 61, Tunkhannock 47

Nanticoke, which played in Division 1 last season, opened its Division 2 schedule with a win at Tunkhannock.

Riley Baird poured in 28 points to lead the win. Lauren Casey added 13.

Allentown Central Catholic 41, Hazleton Area 33

Hazleton Area dropped the afternoon non-league game at home.

Alexa Tihansky led Hazleton Area with eight points.

Julia Roth scored 14 to lead the winners.
