The Crestwood girls basketball team provided the first sign that things might be different for the Lady Comets in the 2021 season.
Helena Jardine scored 19 points as Crestwood went on the road to open the season Tuesday night and came back with a 59-24 victory over Wyoming Seminary.
Crestwood returns all of its starters after going 3-20 last season.
The Lady Comets showed they were ready for the opener against a Wyoming Seminary team that went 16-8 last season and was ranked fifth among Small School girls teams in the My City Mortgage Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams.
Crestwood led 12-6 after one quarter, then opened up a 26-11 halftime lead when Jaden Weiss scored all 10 of her points in the second quarter.
Even when Wyoming Seminary hit three 3-pointers in the third quarter, Crestwood kept adding to its lead, going to the fourth in front 43-22.
Brianna Wickiser finished with 11 points for the Lady Comets.
Cassidy Skoronski led Wyoming Seminary with 10 points.
Northwest 62, St. John Neumann 29
Northwest made a successful debut in the Mid-Penn League behind 17 points each from Morgan Hermanofski and Kennedy Yaple.
The Lady Rangers left Division 2 of the Wyoming Valley Conference after last season ended.
Charleigh Miner added 15 points and Karsyn Miner 13.
Northwest is 1-1 overall.
