GIRLS ROUNDUP: Western Wayne downs North Pocono

Kaeli Romanowski scored 18 points Friday night when host Western Wayne defeated defending champion North Pocono, 56-46, to create a tie at the top of the Lackawanna League Division 2 standings.

The Lady Wildcats and Lady Trojans are both 2-1 in the Lackawanna League.

Western Wayne is the fourth-ranked Small School girls team in District 2, according to the My City Mortgage Super Six Power Rankings. It is the only Small School playing the combined Divisions 1 and 2 schedule after moving down from Class 4A to 3A for this two-year cycle.

North Pocono, the favorite to repeat its title, led 26-24 at halftime.

Skylar Long added 12 points in the win.

Kathy Shepherd had a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Emily Romanowski added nine points.

Lackawanna Trail 47, Forest City 24

Amaralis Thiel scored 21 points and Lackawanna Trail held Forest City to one first-half field goal while improving to 3-0 to remain tied for the Lackawanna League Division 4 lead with Elk Lake.

Thiel scored 11 points in the first half when the Lady Lions took a 23-4 lead, then scored 10 more in the third quarter to make it 37-10 going into the fourth.

Haylee Hermann went 10-for-15 from the line and scored all 12 of her points for Forest City in the second half.

Elk Lake 59, Blue Ridge 19

Delaney Curley was the top scorer with 15 points and Lily Decker was the top rebounder with 10 when Elk Lake overpowered visiting Blue Ridge to reach 3-0 in Lackawanna Division 3.

Susquehanna 44, Mountain View 38

Susquehanna bounced back in its first game since having a 39-game Lackawanna Division 4 winning streak snapped.

Lexi Iveson hit a 3-pointer in each of the first three quarters on the way to a game-high 16 points.

The Lady Sabers opened a 28-15 lead at halftime, then held on from there.

Megan Decker, who added nine points, was 4-for-5 from the line and Iveson 3-for-4 during the fourth quarter.

Regan Cameron scored 17 points to lead Mountain View.

Valley View 51, Delaware Valley 26

Skylar Bianchi scored 20 points to lead host Valley View to the Lackawanna Division 1-2 crossover victory.

Brooke Acoveno led the Lady Warriors with 12 points.

Honesdale 45, West Scranton 32

Honesdale, which had the start of its season delayed until Thursday, began the process of trying to play catch-up by picking up its first win of the season in the second night of back-to-back games.

The Lady Hornets won on the road in the Lackawanna Division 1-2 crossover game.

Old Forge 57, Mid Valley 35

Old Forge’s Olivia Ciullo and Mid Valley’s Kaylee Terranella traded high-scoring efforts in the first half.

Ciullo had 20 of her game-high 31 points in the half, helping the Lady Devils begin to take control of the game late in the second quarter on the way to a 32-22 halftime lead.

Terranella made five 3-pointers in the first half and finished with 24 points.
