ALUMNI REPORT: Collins scoring efficiently

Cecelia Collins has been one of the country’s most efficient scorers among freshmen National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I women’s basketball players.

Collins scored a team-high 16 points Tuesday night when Bucknell went on the road and came away with a 55-48 victory over Iona.

The freshman from Scranton Prep played a team-high 37 minutes and went 5-for-9 from the floor, 2-for-6 from 3-point range and 4-for-4 from the foul line.

Collins hit her highs for points and rebounds (five) during the game in which the Bisons improved to 2-2 on the season. The NEPA Elite Clark 17U AAU team alum is third among the nation’s freshmen in points per shot attempt.

Through four games, Collins is averaging 10.0 points and 3.8 rebounds. She is 14-for-30 from the floor (46.7 percent), 4-for-13 (30.8 percent) on 3-pointers and 8-for-9 (88.9 percent) from the line.

Bucknell is in Burlington, Vt. for the TD Bank Classic Saturday and Sunday. The Bison take on North Dakota Saturday and either Brown or Vermont Sunday.
