Spaciano leads Dallas to overtime victory

Victoria Spaciano got Dallas into overtime, then Nadia Evanosky got the Lady Mounts through the extra session Wednesday night.

Spaciano scored 17 points, including the basket that sent the game into overtime, where Dallas topped Crestwood, 47-38, in a District 2 Class 5A girls quarterfinal.

Evanosky scored 16 points, including going 8-for-9 from the line in overtime.

The game was close throughout and was tied at 14 at halftime, at 22 after three quarters and at 33 after regulation.

Elizabeth Viglone hit a 3-pointer for the only Dallas basket of overtime and also made her two free throws as Dallas outscored Crestwood, 14-5, in the extra four minutes.

Spaciano had 8 of her team’s 11 fourth-quarter points, including a putback to beat the buzzer and extend the game.

Grace Pasternick scored 16 points for Crestwood. She had 8 of her team’s 14 first-half points and 4 of the 5 in overtime.

In other Wednesday Class 5A girls quarterfinals:

Abington Heights 53, North Pocono 25

Maggie Coleman hit four 3-pointers as Abington Heights routed North Pocono.

The Lady Comets opened a 28-14 halftime lead.

Abington Heights, the second seed and defending champion, will host Dallas in Saturday’s semifinal at 1 p.m.

Pittston Area 61, West Scranton 35

Kallie Booth scored 22 points to lead the top-seeded Lady Patriots to the home-court victory.

Daniella Ranieli added 16 points.

Pittston Area took a 21-4 lead after one quarter with the help of 3-pointers by Ranieli, Booth and Ava Callahan. Booth had six points and Ranieli five in the quarter.

Callahan had two more 3-pointers in the second quarter for a 34-13 halftime lead. She had all nine of her points in the first half.

West Scranton’s Olivia Dougher had two of her three 3-pointers and half of her 18 points in the third quarter, but the Lady Invaders could not cut into the deficit.

Wyoming Valley West 52, Wallenpaupack 47

Wyoming Valley West rallied in the fourth quarter on the road to advance into Saturday afternoon’s semifinal at top-seeded Pittston Area.

Trinity Johnson had 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocked shots for the Lady Spartans, who have won seven times in the last eight games.

Mackenzie Perluke added 15 points for the winner.

Devon Kiesendahl had 21 points for Wallenpaupack.
