Maria Belardi scored 17 points and Lizzie Neville added another strong two-way game Tuesday night as Scranton Prep completed a fifth straight perfect Lackawanna League girls season by pulling away in the second half of a 56-26 romp over visiting Honesdale.
Neville finished with 12 points and 8 steals.
The win in the Division 1-2 crossover ran the Division 1 champions’ league winning streak to 67 games.
The Classics led 17-4 at the quarter and 26-8 at the half before the Lady Hornets rallied.
Honesdale attacked the lane to score the first eight points of the second half and held Scranton Prep scoreless for more than six minutes until Neville pulled in a long rebound and made a quick move to the basket to bank in a shot while falling down.
Neville’s basket started a stretch in which the Classics outscored the Lady Hornets, 30-10, over the final 10 minutes.
At 18-3 overall, Scranton Prep appears to be just about locked into the second seed for the District 2 Class 4A tournament where it is the four-time defending champions.
A rematch with Honesdale, currently seventh in the seedings race, in the quarterfinal round appears likely. The Lady Hornets finished the regular season 6-7 and 9-12.
