GIRLS ROUNDUP: Mid Valley, Holy Cross win

Mid Valley held Old Forge scoreless for the final 3:18 Saturday to come away with a 34-29, home-court victory in the Lackawanna League Division 3 opener for both teams.

Abbie Larson and Grace Goetz made the plays that finally finished off the Blue Devils after Old Forge cut an 11-point halftime deficit to 30-29.

Larson blocked a shot and controlled the rebound with less than 20 seconds remaining. When she could not convert from the foul line, Goetz grabbed the offensive rebound and made both her shots with 12.9 seconds left to close the scoring.

Abby Merrifield had extended the lead from one to three by hitting one of two free throws with 2:24 left and again with 1:20 remaining.

Holy Cross 58, Lakeland 44

Holy Cross outscored host Lakeland, 14-6, in the fourth quarter to pull away for a victory in the other Lackawanna Division 3 opener.

Kaci Kranson led the Lady Crusaders with 23 points.

Kranson and Krista Carachilo each had 11 in the first half, helping Holy Cross take a 29-23 lead after trailing 12-11 at the end of the first quarter.

Alexia Bauer had gotten Lakeland started with 6 points in the first quarter and 10 in the half on the way to finishing with 13.

Spring Grove 56, Crestwood 48

Spring Grove shot 9-for-11 from the line to fight off Crestwood in the fourth quarter of the game at the West York Shootout.

Cadence Hiller scored 11 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter when Julia Glowacki hit two 3-pointers to finish with 14 points.

Spring Grove scored the game’s final five points.

Hazleton Area 56, Pottsville 39

Lacie Kringe had 19 points and 7 rebounds to lead Hazleton Area to the non-league win.

Brianna Kennedy added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals.

Sophia Shults chipped in eight points and seven rebounds while Kacie Kilker had seven steals and four assists.

Wallenpaupack 36, Wyoming Area 21

Devon Kiesendahl scored 6 of her game-high 11 points during a 15-2, first-half run that carried Wallenpaupack to the non-league, road win.

Wallenpaupack trailed, 4-2, with 3:35 left in the first quarter, but took a 17-6 lead with 1:15 remaining in the half.

Notre Dame Green Pond 45, Holy Redeemer 42

Notre Dame Green Pond rallied from a 26-22 deficit to win at Holy Redeemer.

Jillian Delbalso scored 7 of her team-high 15 points during the second quarter when Holy Redeemer outscored Notre Dame, 20-14, to take the lead.

Western Wayne 58, Susquehanna 19

Kaeli Romanowski scored 21 points and Emily Romanowski added 11 for Western Wayne, which took control in the middle two quarters.

Susquehanna led, 9-6, after one quarter.

The Romanowski sisters each had seven points in a 21-4 second quarter. Kaeli Romanowski then scored 12 points in a 20-4 third quarter for a 47-17 lead.

Scranton 59, Stroudsburg 39

Sisters also led the way as Scranton won the non-league game at Stroudsburg.

Finley Bittenbender scored 20 points and Kennedy Bittenbender added 18 for the Lady Knights.

Kamryn Alers chipped in with 10 points.

Delaware Valley 45, Forest City 11

Delaware Valley rolled at home in non-league play.
