Kaeli Romanowski led a Western Wayne comeback, set a school career scoring record and finished with 29 points Tuesday night as the Lady ‘Cats defeated visiting Abington Heights, 50-46, in a Lackawanna League Division 1-2 girls crossover game.
Romanowski, a two-time Lackawanna League Division 2 Player of the Year choice by NEPABasketball.com, passed Stacy Gibbs Box as the school’s all-time scoring leader late in a 14-point third quarter.
Abington Heights led after each of the first two quarters and was up eight in the third before Western Wayne went on a 15-1 run to head into the fourth with a 38-32 lead.
The Lady ‘Cats remained in front, but still needed a three-point play by Romanowski in the last minute for their final points to clinch the victory.
Katherine Shepherd added 10 points in the win.
Western Wayne, which has already clinched a repeat of the Division 2 title, improved to 10-1 in the league and 15-4 overall.
Allison Dammer scored 14 points to lead Abington Heights, which fell three games off Scranton Prep’s pace in the Division 1 race. The second-place Lady Comets are 6-3 and 12-6.
