Wednesday’s light girls basketball schedule belonged to the Lady Warriors.
Both games that were played were won by Lady Warriors.
Wyoming Area took over in the middle of the game on the way to a 35-21 victory over Wyoming Seminary in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 game.
Elk Lake beat the buzzer and host Scranton, 47-45, in non-league action.
Wyoming Area shut out Wyoming Seminary in the third quarter as part of a streak of 17 straight points after trailing late in the half.
Krista Jones scored 30 points and Delaney Curley beat the final buzzer with the game-winning layup as Elk Lake completed a comeback from a 13-point halftime deficit.
Morgan Janeski and Halle Kranson scored 10 points each to lead Wyoming Area in its divisional opener.
Winless Wyoming Seminary led, 16-15, with 1:45 remaining in the second quarter, but Wyoming Area held the Blue Knights scoreless for just under 11 minutes while taking a 32-16 lead early in the third quarter.
Anna Wisnewski grabbed eight rebounds while Rosalind Tart and Olivia Rome had seven each. Janeski made three steals.
Avery Luksic had six points to lead Wyoming Seminary. Teagan Jackett had all five of her points for a 10-8 lead after one quarter.
Jones led Elk Lake’s second-half comeback.
The game matched the leaders in the race for top seed in two different postseason tournament brackets.
Elk Lake (5-2) began the night as the top team in District 2 Class A. Scranton, which dropped its second straight after a 4-0 start, came in as the leader in District 2-4 Class 6A.
Kennedy Bittenbender and Finley Bittenbender had two 3-pointers and 10 points each when Scranton took a 29-16 halftime lead. Kennedy finished with 16 points and Finley had 15.
After being held to a single field goal in the second quarter, Elk Lake got four 3-pointers from Jones during her 14-point third quarter to cut the Scranton lead to 37-34.
Jones was 7-for-8 from the line in the second half, including 5-for-6 in the fourth quarter when she scored seven points to help pull Elk Lake even before Curley’s final shot.
Lily Decker added 10 points for Elk Lake and Curley had 7.
