Kaeli Romanowski scored 18 points and made 8 steals Saturday night when Western Wayne downed visiting Honesdale, 60-30, to clinch its second straight Lackawanna League Division 2 title.
The Lady ‘Cats, members of the Lackawanna League for a quarter-century since the demise of the Northeast Athletic Conference, had never won a Lackawanna divisional title until last season’s championship.
They made the repeat look easy, clinching with three games remaining. Western Wayne is the first team in District 2 to clinch a divisional basketball title, boys or girls.
Western Wayne improved to 9-1 in the division and 14-4 overall.
Honesdale started the night in sole possession of second place and ended it tied with Wallenpaupack. The Lady Hornets are 4-5 and 7-10.
Honesdale came in on a three-game winning streak, all in league play, but the Lady ‘Cats never let them get started.
Katherine Shepherd and Emily Romanowski scored 11 points each for Western Wayne.
Jaque Morris chipped in with six rebounds.
