The Abington Heights and Riverside girls followed similarly dominant paths Sunday night while opening the holiday tournament week with first-round wins in the Taylor Lions Tournament.

Abington Heights pounded Lackawanna Trail, 52-15, in the opener, then host Riverside hammered West Scranton, 56-9, in the second game of the semifinal doubleheader.

By each beating one of their neighbors, the Lady Comets and Lady Vikes set up a Tuesday 7:30 p.m. championship matchup between the defending District 2 champions, who are each part of the My City Mortgage Super Six Power Rankings of District 2 teams.

Both teams opened huge halftime leads, then posted third-quarter shutouts.

Abington Heights opened leads of 19-2 after one quarter, 35-9 at halftime and 43-9 going into the fourth quarter.

Riverside’s leads were at 25-3 after a quarter, 37-6 at the half and 53-6 after three quarters.

Allison Dammer finished with 14 points for Abington Heights, which got points from all nine available players.

Dammer had eight points and Emily McDonald had six of her eight during the first quarter.

Madison Zalewski had seven points, Kate Scoblick six and Anna Scoblick five in the win.

Lackawanna Trail got four points each from Amaralis Thiel and Ella Axtell.

Kylie Lavelle scored 27 points while Katie Slaboda and Morgan Antoniacci each hit career scoring highs as Riverside ran away in the second game.

Lavelle also had 11 rebounds and 4 steals.

Slaboda finished with 18 points, 5 blocked shots and 3 steals.

Antoniacci had nine points, four steals and four assists.

Lavelle had 13 points and Slaboda 8 in the first quarter.

By haltime, Lavelle had 18 points, Slaboda 11 and Antoniacci 9.

Lavelle then scored nine more before finishing up in the third quarter. Slaboda had Riverside’s other seven third-quarter points.

Molly Donovan hit West Scranton’s only 3-pointer and that was enough to lead the Lady Invaders in scoring.

West Scranton will face Lackawanna Trail for third place Tuesday at 6 p.m.
