Jordany Cardenas scored 16 points, including a pair of timely 3-pointers in the third quarter, Tuesday night to lead Mid Valley to a 50-31 Lackawanna League Division 3 boys basketball victory over visiting Old Forge.
The win allowed the Spartans to improve to 3-1 in the division and remain within a half-game of first-place Holy Cross.
Cardenas was named PNC Bank Player of the Game for the NEPABasketball/com/NEPA’s ESPN radio broadcast of the game.
Mid Valley took control early, scoring the last four points of the first quarter and the first 14 of the second quarter for a 24-4 lead.
Danny Nemitz had seven points in the half to lead the balanced effort the Spartans used to open the big lead.
Old Forge managed to get within 24-12 by scoring the last eight points of the second half.
When the Blue Devils briefly cut the deficit to single digits in the third quarter, Cardenas made his 3-pointers and the Spartans pulled away for good.
Mike Miler added 11 points in the win.
Michael DiGregorio led Old Forge with 13 points.
