BOYS ROUNDUP: Dallas edges Pittston Area

Jack Farrell scored 18 points and provided the late-game free throw shooting that helped Dallas get past visiting Pittston Area, 49-48, Thursday night in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 boys basketball game.

The Mountaineers knocked the Patriots out of a share of the division lead.

After Farrell helped put Dallas up by four, Andrew Krawczyk hit a 3-pointer in the last two seconds to reduce the final margin to one.

Dallas led 11-6 after one quarter and 20-15 at halftime before Pittston Area rallied to tie the game going into the fourth quarter.

Austin Finarelli and Nick Nocito added nine points each for the Mountaineers.

Logan Booth scored 15 points and Brennan Higgins added 14 for Pittston Area.

Hazleton Area 42, Nanticoke 35

Hazleton Area limited Nanticoke to 28 percent shooting while claiming sole possession of the WVC Division 1 lead with the road victory.

The Cougars trailed 11-6 after one quarter, but limited the Trojans to 10 points in the middle two quarters to take a 28-21 lead.

Chris Garcia scored all 11 of his points in the second half to lead Hazleton Area.

Angel Cruz added nine points and two blocked shots.

Andrew Vayda, who had six points while the Cougars were taking the lead in the second quarter, finished with eight points, four assists and two steals.

Kevin Gill also had eight points.

Scotty Campbell, who scored seven points, and Brett Antolick each grabbed seven rebounds.

Crestwood 82, Berwick 31

Crestwood trailed until scoring 29 straight points, the last 19 of the first half and the first 10 of the second half, in Thursday’s WVC Division 1 rout of visiting Berwick.

Sean Murphy’s 3-pointer for the last of his team-high 11 points early in the second quarter gave Berwick a 22-20 lead.

The Comets opened a 49-22 lead early in the third quarter before the Bulldogs scored again.

Crestwood held Berwick to three points in each of the middle two quarters, outscoring Berwick, 48-6, after being behind at the end of the first quarter.

Jacob Zaleski had 9 of his team-high 12 points in the second quarter.

Paul Feisel had all 11 of his in the first half.

Ryan Petrosky, who finished with 11 points, and Mike Zaleski, who wound up with 10, each scored 8 in the third quarter.

Brad Papura also had 10 points.

Wilkes-Barre Area 78, Wyoming Valley West 45

Wilkes-Barre Area has won three straight by a total of 81 points to climb to 5-3 in WVC Division 1 and reach the .500 mark overall at 8-8.

Visiting Wyoming Valley West has dropped seven out of eight since winning the James Akens Memorial Holiday Tournament at North Pocono.

Holy Redeemer 79, Wyoming Area 22

Justice Shoats, Mason Mendygral and Matt Prociak got Holy Redeemer off to a flying start as the Royals bounced back from their first WVC Division 2 loss by routing visiting Wyoming Area, 79-22.

Shoats had 12 points during a 32-4 first quarter. He finished with 18 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds.

Mendygral had half his 14 points in the first quarter.

Prociak added six in the first on the way to a double-double. He finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Jared Piontkowski and Jake Pizalotto joined them in double figures with 12 and 11 points.

Sammy Solomon, who had 12 points, was the only Warrior to score more than 2.

Wyoming Seminary 73, Tunkhannock 48

Todd Phillips scored 18 points and had 3 of the 11 made 3-pointers that Wyoming Seminary used to remain unbeaten in WVC Division 2 with the win at Tunkhannock.

Ethan Meuser had 14 points and six rebounds. Jake Koretz had 12 points. Alex Meuser also made three 3s while scoring 11.

Koretz and Jeremy Callahan each made a pair of 3 -pointers.

Hanover Area 70, Northwest 38

Khairi Carson scored all 15 of his points in the middle quarters when host Hanover Area expanded its lead from 21-15 to 55-30.

Auggie George had 7 of his 11 points for the Hawkeyes in the first quarter.

Matt Saxe had 9 of his 12 for Northwest in the first quarter.

Scranton 66, Honesdale 57

Jason Shields scored 20 points and Kevin Lazdowsky had a double-double to lead Scranton to the win over visiting Honesdale in a Lackawanna Division 1-2 crossover.

Lazdowsky finished with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Chris Cespedes led Honesdale with 17 points. Joey Scarfalloto added 14.

Maine-Endwell 71, Blue Ridge 35

The New York state school came to Blue Ridge and won easily in the non-league game.
