Ryan Petrosky, who helped Crestwood emerge from a four-team playoff to break a tie at the top of the standings and claim the division title, has been selected as NEPABasketball.com’s Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 Coach of the Year.
Al Semenza, who put Pittston Area in that four-way playoff is in his first season leading the Patriots, is the Coach of the Year. It is the third straight divisional Coach of the Year award for Semenza, who was selected in Lackawanna League Division 2 each of the previous two seasons for his work at Western Wayne.
Dallas, another of the teams in the first-place tie, had the most players selected with a first-teamer, a second-teamer and two honorable mentions. Jack Farrell repeated on the first team, Nick Nocito was a repeat choice on the second team. Austin Finarelli and Luke DelGaudio received honorable mention.
Farrell was one of three repeaters on the first team. Pittston Area’s Brennan Higgins and Nanticoke’s Colby Butczynski were the others. Butczynski made the team in Division 2 last season before the WVC switched from three divisions to two.
Wilkes-Barre Area’s Cole Walker, who was a second-team choice in Division 2 with Meyers which became part of the first-year Wolfpack team, joins Nocito as the repeaters on the second-team. Walker and first-teamer Brandon Hall helped Wilkes-Barre Area join the others in the first-place tie.
The honorable mention list includes Jake Krupinski from Nanticoke, another player who made the second team in Division 2 a year ago.
