Holy Redeemer senior Justice Shoats announced Saturday that he is accepting a full athletic scholarship to Lock Haven University where he plans to be part of both the basketball and track and field teams.
Shoats earned second-team Class 3A all-state honors from Pennsylvania Sports Writers for his efforts in leading Holy Redeemer to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state semifinals. He is a defending state champion in the long jump and the favorite to win the Class 2A high jump at this week’s District 2 Track and Field Championships where he is also a contender in the 100-meter dash.
Shoats put the jumping and running ability displayed in track to good use on the basketball court. He scored more than 1,500 career points at Holy Redeemer where he was named District 2 Player of the Year as a senior. He was named Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 Player of the Year by the website as both a sophomore and senior. Shoats also made the Hoop Group Showcase League third team while playing for the NEPA Elite Coyle 17U team in his final AAU season last year.
Lock Haven, a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II school, went 8-14 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and 11-16 overall during the 2021-22 season.
