Just when Kayla Agentowicz and the Mount St. Mary’s women’s basketball team were heating up, the team had its last three games canceled because of COVID situations.

Agentowicz had her highest-scoring game in more than four years and the Mountaineers broke a six-game losing streak Dec. 18 with an 82-65, home-court victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore.

The graduate student guard from Lakeland hit five 3-pointers in a game for the first time in her college career while scoring 23 points.

Agentowicz made all five of her attempts from beyond the arc and all six from the foul line. She finished 6-for-9 overall from the floor while playing 38 minutes.

The 23 points came up one short of Agentowicz’s career-high against Fairfield Nov. 21, 2017, early in her sophomore season, not long before a lower leg injury seriously disrupted her career.

Mount St. Mary’s hit 14 times from 3-point range in the win.

The Mountaineers (2-7) already knew two holiday week games had been canceled before their Dec. 21 game against Maryland-Baltimore County was also called off. They are scheduled to return Thursday with a Northeast Conference home game against Long Island University.

Agentowicz is the team’s most accurate 3-point shooter at 18-for-37 (48.1 percent) and ranks second in assists (18) and steals (11) while starting eight of nine games. She is 8-for-8 from the line and hitting 49.1 percent from the floor while averaging 8.3 points and ranking third on the team with 4.6 rebounds.

After scoring 35 total points in the first 6 games, Agentowicz has 40 in the last 3 while shooting 13-for-21 overall (61.9) and 8-for-13 (61.5) on 3-pointers.
