Notes

  • West Scranton reached a playoff for the first-half title in Lackawanna League Division 1 in 2010-11, but lost to eventual all-season champion Scranton, 56-50, after both teams finished the half at 6-1. The Invaders had handed the Knights their only loss of the season in the second game.
  • West Scranton is 3-6 all-time in six state tournament appearances.
  • The Invaders went all the way to the semifinals in their state tournament debut in 1970.
  • Following the only district boys basketball championship in school history, West Scranton entered the 1970 state tournament in Class A, which was then the largest of three classes (A, B and C).
  • Playing in a tournament made up entirely of the 11 district champions (District 5 did not have any Class A teams), West Scranton made its state debut against Abington Heights, which was then playing with the rural northern schools as part of the old District 12. The Invaders beat the Comets, 68-57.
  • West Scranton followed up its 1970 victory over Abington Heights by defeating Shamokin, 91-70, in the quarterfinals.
  • Haverford beat West Scranton, 68-57, in the 1970 state semifinals.
  • The Invaders returned to the tournament in 1972, again in the largest of the three classes, but lost 56-46 to Central Dauphin in the first round of what had been expanded into a 32-team bracket.
  • West Scranton returned to the state tournament just once between 1972 and 2011. The Invaders lost to Milton, 56-36, in 2005 in Class 3A, the second-largest of four classes at the time.
